Make Money With a Home Based Business - Do You Have to Be Lucky?

Many people wonder if you have to be lucky in order to make money with a home based business. Is there a secret method that people used to make money? This is usually the question that many people wonder about. There is no recipe for success or formula that you can utilize to make money instantly. Lucky is a word that used when somebody wins the lottery.

In order to make money with a home based business all you have to do is promote it effectively and put it in front of the right people. The more effectively and consistently you promote your business the more results you're going to get. In order to promote your business you're going to have to dedicate your time and eventually your money as well.

Most people tend to forget that this is a business. You have to understand that a business requires your time, money and energy. These are going to be essential in order for you to be successful. There's nothing lucky about being successful or making money on the Internet. The reason it appears to be this way is because those people that seem to be successful now have put in the hard work and time in the past.

The one advice that I do give you is that you have to make sure that you start with a legitimate home based business that is not going to disappear on you. If you ask me the best option for you to start with is going to be with global domains international. Do you want to know all the dirty little secrets Global Domains International is hiding from you? I reveal it all at my blog and show you the truth behind this company.

Do Only One Thing at Once

If, like me, you are doing a day job as well as a home business, with the aim of crossing over to full-time network marketer, the trick to staying the course is to persist. So how do you persist and achieve your goal of becoming financially independent?

Here are my main tips to see you through the course.

Reject the employee mentality - This means that you are going to have to accept that what was previously your 'downtime' is no longer that. You have to realize you have 24 hours in a day and 8 of those will be taken up by your day job, probably 10, depending on your commute time.

Sleep time - How much sleep time do you really need? This is an important decision because you need to factor this into your 24 hours. Lets assume you need 6 hours; this leaves you with about 8 hours. Next there is Dinner and some time with the family so that leaves 6 -7 hours.

Prioritize - So at best you have 6 hours because of getting up and getting ready for work and then getting ready for bed. So did you imagine you would have at best 6 hours each week day for all your network business tasks?

Do Only One Thing Thing At Once - The real trick to prioritization is to concentrate your attention by doing a task 'once only', whenever possible. Break your available time up into 1 hour segments in the evening, similarly on Saturday on Sunday. If you are really serious about achieving your financial goals then several prior week-end activities will have to be shelved. When you are engaged in an activity ask yourself a simple question, is this activity moving me closer to my financial goals? If not then de-prioritize it or stop it until your financial goal is achieved.

Short term loss vs. long term gain - You have to realize the game is one of short term loss vs. long term gain. After a while you will be surprised how much time can be freed up by asking the above simple question. The important thing is that you have a clear financial goal. Then you can use visualization techniques to help you make it feel real and to keep you on track.

Strictly allocate the blocks of time and stick to the tasks in that block - Don't be distracted and when the hour is up move on to the next allocated task. Multi-tasking will not help, that is the same as the difference between a shotgun versus a spear. The shotgun will hit it's target and do some damage. Whereas the spear tip will cut through the target far better because it is focused energy on a single point.

If you keep using focused energy on your tasks you will complete them much quicker in the long run. It's the difference between appearing busy and being effective.

Once you have achieved your financial goals you will be in a position to have much more free time. This is because you will have adopted a disciplined approach to doing your business tasks. In addition you will have the finances to delegate some of the tasks you did yourself in the past to someone else, possibly a Virtual Personal Assistant.

Why Most New Home Based Businesses Fail

Working from home can be challenging if you don't know what you do. Many people jump into this phenomenon without any investigation. They follow the crowds and the crowds says now is the time to work from home. Most of these people are looking for employment sooner than later and then discredit the "work from home" type of businesses, all this because they did not do any homework before they started.

Some are unfortunate and need to find an income because of unemployment and these people sometimes gets hurt by scams that promise an overnight success. Take it from me, if it sounds to good, just move on. Let your intuition guide you.

Well what ever your circumstances are, you need to answer a tough question, as this will determine the type of business you have to start.

Question:

Do you need an immediate income from your business or are you willing to plow back the income and grow your business?

I'm not here to tell you what you should do, but let's face reality, we all need to pay the bills. The overnight success does not exist, not on the Internet, neither in the normal brick and mortar business. Exceptions however do exist but it's not the rule.

For any type of business to start making money, you need a product, a customer base and some logistics. You might have the best product on earth but if nobody knows about it, you're dead. Even for Internet businesses it's the same, you might have a good product, but with the 15 million plus websites out there, it is tough to get a customer to buy your product.

Home base businesses fail because it all boils down to the following:

Marketing is King.

Without a good marketing program behind you, your business is dead before it actually started.

But, don't despair, its not that difficult and the internet gives you a low risk opportunity to start working from home and make a living for you and your family.

The 3 Biggest Mistakes People Make When Starting an Internet Business

The advantages of starting an internet business are pretty attractive...lucrative potential, low start up costs, flexibility in time and location etc etc. Combine advantages like that with a low barrier of entry, and the result is more internet business options than you can count...of which a small few are good and many are not.

That can make it very challenging for someone with little to no experience to know which business has a realistic chance of making money. Nonetheless, you can find one of the few good ones if you get educated on what to look for...and what to avoid. Pay close attention to the 3 mistakes outlined below...they will save you a lot of pain and frustration.

Here are the 3 biggest mistakes people make when starting an internet business:

1. They look for the business that makes the most money. Probably didn't see that one coming, huh? Making money is a good thing, and there is nothing wrong with adding multiple 0's to your paycheck. However, some people invest a lot of time, money and emotional energy before they realize a scary truth in business: you can make a ton of money and be MISERABLE. The point here is to begin with the end in mind. Take the time to investigate what really goes into the business you are looking to build and then seriously consider whether you can find satisfaction doing those activities.

2. They focus too much of their evaluation on the quality of the product. This seems like the logical thing to do. To someone with little business experience (or a lot of business experience with little success), its natural to assume that if the product is great, your job of selling it will be that much easier...or even better, find a product that sells itself! Unfortunately that's not how it works. There are scores of awesome products and services that go unsold because so few people have any clue how to market and promote them effectively. It may surprise you, but its not really that important how great the product is you intend to promote - look at McDonalds or pet rocks. That's why the people who succeed in starting an internet business focus the majority of their evaluation on the marketing system's effectiveness and ability to train someone with little experience. Trust me, this will be the biggest factor determining whether you succeed in starting an internet business (aside from your personal ambition).

3. They think that a ground floor opportunity is an automatic ticket to success. Our emotional side really wants this one to be true, and it seems to make sense at first. Quite often, people think of business start ups like an initial public offering (IPO) of a stock: they almost always go up (at least at first) and the only way normal people get a piece of the action is to know the right person. So when the opportunity comes along for an 'average Joe' to get in on one, it seems like a no-brainer. Unfortunately, the vast majority of businesses fail, and the percentage is usually worse for internet businesses. However, its important to understand what people are really looking for when they are attracted to startups...a company that is on the verge of explosive growth that they can get a piece of. It's not hard to tell if a company is seriously struggling or ready to explode if you know what to look for. This is part of what I cover in my complete home business success checklist (link below).

Starting an internet business can seem like a pretty daunting task, but there are great opportunities for people with little to no experience. However, keep these 3 pitfalls in mind because they are the most common mistakes I see smart people make over and over again.

4 Steps to Building a Home Internet Business

When you first look into building a home Internet business it is easy to get a bad case of information overload. There will be more information then you can process and that can cause a bad case of paralysis of analysis which leads to no action being taken. The fastest cure for the information overload is to have a clear cut plan of how you will build your business. In this article I will give four key steps to getting your business up and running. If you keep focused on these four steps you will move faster and see success sooner.

1) Select your niche

Picking a niche is the first and one of the most important first steps in getting your business started. You will want a niche that has enough search traffic to support your business and yet small enough that you can define the needs of the market and target that need. It is also best to go with something that you know about at first.

2) What will you sell?

Now that you have your niche, you must determine how you will make money. You have several choices here and nothing is set in stone however, you will be better off to design your business from the beginning with your monetization model in mind. Will you create ebooks and videos? Will you sell affiliate products or will you build a content site and sell advertising.

3) Build your site

Now that you have everything in place and a plan laid out it's time to get your site live online. You can use a static html site or go with a blog. I like the word press blog option because it is already optimized to do well with the search engines and everything can be automated through plug ins. And the very nature of a blog is a constant flow of fresh content which is the search engines favorite food.

4) Send traffic

There is no business without traffic coming to your web site. You have to get people to see your offers before they can buy them and that is where traffic comes into play. There are any number of ways to get traffic and one of the fastest is to buy it through pay per click. This is not a game though and you should be ready to be serious or stay clear. Article marketing is a good choice though it takes longer to see the results. However, those results will still be there months and years from now.

Is Lack of Confidence Holding You Back?

Do baby boomers struggle with lack of confidence when it comes to running a business? As a fellow baby boomer, I can only speak from experience and what I hear others say. And the answer is "yes!"

As a baby boomer, you may have spent the majority of your life working for someone else, being told what to do and when to have it done. Or maybe you have spent the past twenty years at home raising kids. Both these situations can cause you to question whether you can really be successful at running your own business.

Lack of confidence can put up a huge roadblock in your path of finding purpose and freedom by running your own business. It says, "Who me? Who am I kidding?" I have been there, fellow baby boomer, and let me tell you, do not believe this. If you have a strong desire to make this work, you can do it!

I stayed home with my kids, then when they reached school age, we homeschooled them. So I did not do other work for about twenty years. Then, after we were finished homeschooling, I wanted to do something else with my time. I enjoyed being home, and still had family situations that required me to be flexible with my time. So I began to search for a home business opportunity.

I had no experience in running a business, but had the desire to do so for a long time. So that was my starting point. I wanted to make this work. I started out by owning an online bookstore, and then moved into my current business. I loved both and love working from home!

I do feel it is important to choose something you will really enjoy, as this can help you stay motivated during the challenging times. Being the "boss" now, you will need to find self-motivation and perseverance to keep going. Plus, doing something you already know something about will help build confidence as you share what you know with others.

When you are tempted to say, "I can't do this!" Remember you can! Your business will be starting out small and growing, and you can grow with it. You can always outsource the tasks you feel inadequate in or eventually, may even be able to afford hiring some consistent help.

As a baby boomer, you have a lot of life experience. This can translate into help for running your own business. If you have managed your family and your house, you can take it a step further and run your own business.

Is it for everyone? Absolutely not. But if you possess the desire, can motivate yourself, and are persistent, you can make this work. Don't let a lack of confidence keep you stuck where you are. You will never know until you try!

How to Generate Home Based Business Income

Being able to generate work from home income is not as easy as just setting up a website with some products or services and thinking you're going to make some money. It is also not joining some affiliate marketing sites and promoting your website a couple of times and thinking it's going to do the trick for you. There is more to generating a home based business income than just taking a few hours you're willing to spare a week. If you're serious about making money in a home based business you have to be prepared to put in some long hours and give up some leisure time.

Before you can even begin to think about working at home you have to take time to conduct some research so you can find the right home based business to meet your needs. You can't just look at something and say, "Yes, that's what I want to do." Those who fail at home based businesses likely do just that-they don't take the time to research and weigh their options. They see or read something that sounds good and don't take the time to do any research.

Not everyone has the skills or desire to do the same business, and while the opportunity you see may see like it's easy, you can be sure that no home based business is easy to start. It takes just as much work if not more than you would do to start a brick and mortar business. The only major differences between the two are the amount of the investment and the fact that you don't have to go to work every day to make money.

Generating home based business income involves taking the time required to promote your business. That goes beyond simply submitting your website to the search engines-you have to define your target audience and get your business before those who are the most likely to be interested in what you have to offer. It doesn't matter whether it's products, services or a business opportunity-if you don't show it to your target audience you will not make any money from it.

Generating income at home takes a great deal of work, and if you aren't willing to do the work you're not going to achieve success. Before you ever begin a home based business you need to understand the road to success is a long one, and the more time you devote to reaching that road, the quicker you will achieve success. As the saying goes, "Good things come to those who wait," but at the same time you don't want to sit back and think it's going to happen unless you take some time to work hard to reach your goal. Be prepared to spend many hours building your business before you will be able to begin to see any of the benefits being returned to you on a consistent basis.
